In the twenty-first edition of the Armed With a Camera (AWC) Fellowship for Emerging Media Artists, Visual Communications develops the next generation of Asian American and Pacific Islander artists to connect our communities through the power of the VC Archives.

The VC Archives is home to one of largest photographic and moving image collections on Asian Pacific experiences and movements in America. It is a resource for artists, educators, and storytellers, and continues to produce exhibits and presentations to engage our communities.

Since 2002, AWC has developed and supported over 160 Asian American & Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander filmmakers. Cultivating a rising generation of artists committed to social and political changes and movements, these storytellers empower communities and challenge perspectives through their creative works.

In our recent Fellowship centering Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander artists and stories, we understood that the Fellowship can be adaptive to respond to the needs of our communities. In preserving the legacy and vision of our communities, the next AWC Fellowship will be aligned with the spirit and memories in the VC Archives.
