Tree of Palme
by Takashi Nakamura
(2002, running time 2hr. 15 min)
In Japanese with English Subtitles
A
creative vision radically different from other animated works, TREE
OF PALME incorporates a mix of traditional cel and 3D animation to retell
the story of Disney's Pinocchio. Ten years in development, five of those
years in production, a team of more than 500 people worked on this film
that deals with the spiritual journey of a wooden robot named Palme.
Takashi Namakura, director of animation for “Akira” and
former collaborator of Academy Award winning animator Hayao Miyazaki
(“Spirited Away”) directs this allegorical tale about the
transience of human existence.
