Korea, 1905: In a nation not yet divided between North and South and
the looming dark shadow of Japanese imperialism, Hochang (Song Kang)
becomes torn between fulfilling familial duties and his other love:
sports. While playing soccer one day, he kicks the ball into the yard
of an American missionary where he stumbles into an alien game that
immediately fascinates him—baseball! Obsessed with the elegance
and the democracy of the sport, he soon joins Korea’s first team,
the YMCA Baseball Team. Meanwhile, as the Korean government prepares
to abdicate its sovereignty to Japan, the team unknowingly becomes a
national symbol of pride and joy. And when the Japanese Army challenges
them to a game, the motley crew realize that baseball is not just a
game, but a rallying cry for freedom.
