New Talent Development Scholarship Grant Program
Visual
Communications is currently accepting submissions for the 4th Annual
ABC New Talent Scholarship Grant Program.
The
aim of this program is to nurture and support aspiring writers, directors
and filmmakers from diverse backgrounds. The program is designed to
assist high school (sophomore and junior applicants), college and graduate
students as well artists that are current members of participating non-profit
arts institutions. The goal is to provide financial support and mentorship
in the development of a new idea or for the completion of a work in
progress. Artists selected for the Scholarship Grant program will receive
a grant of $20,000.00.
Visual Communications will submit two nominees to ABC for consideration.
Selected participants will be paired with a mentor for the 10-month
grant period. The program concludes with a series of workshops in Los
Angeles at ABC Entertainment and the Walt Disney Studios. ABC will award
the scholarship/grants through the participating organizations only.
Program Criteria
Include the following information with application:
- Work resume and personal bio
- 500-800 word essay describing: what are your
expectations should ABC grant you financial and
creative support for this project
- Proposed project for consideration including a
detailed budget
- If your submission is a screenplay or a TV script,
you must include a treatment and ten pages of proposed
story idea with a detailed budget totaling $20,000.00.
- Film and tape submissions must be VHS format
- Signed and notarized legal agreement
- Only the proposed project will be conisdered. Any
additional support matieral will be returned.
Unacceptable materials for the Scholarship Grant
program include but are not limited to the following:
Published material i.e. short stories or scripts
adapted from other material not indicative of writing
for television or film or sequels to motion pictures,
plays, magazine articles, drawings, projects that have
been fully executed creatively i.e. polished scripts
or videos needing posts production only and projects
that have previously entered into a competition or
festival.
- In the case of a writing team submission, each
partner must submit a separate, notarized application
package and resume. Only one copy of the submission is
required provided the writing team sends their
separate applications in the same will receive one
grant totaling$20,000.00
- Selected artists will have 10 months to complete
their project.
- A mentor will be assigned to all selected artists by

- All selected artists will be required to attend a
three-day workshop/seminar at ABC Entertainment and
the Walt Disney Studios in Los Angeles.
Scholarship/grant recipients outside of the Los
Angeles area will be provided with roundtrip airfare
and accommodations.
- Staff members, administrators of board members (or
family members of any of the preceding) of the
sponsoring organization or the selection committee are
ineligible.
- Individuals cannot apply directly to ABC
Entertainment. All submissions must come through a
participating organization.
- ABC, Inc. would like first-look at all funded
projects.
